Michael Hernandez also known to us as Mike, has been a loyal member at BeachSide CrossFit since November 2020. Mike will be celebrating his 81st birthday in May. Since joining the gym, Mike has been training 3 times a week consistently with Coach Kai, making it apparent he is very dedicated to his health and fitness. Mike is such an inspiration and motivating person not only to fellow members, but to all the coaches at BeachSide as well. It’s such an honor and pleasure to have Mike as part of our BeachSide family. When you see him training at 5:30pm make sure to say hello and congratulate him.
Tell us about yourself:
My name is Michael H. Hernandez and I’m living my best moments in beautiful Ventura, California! I feel more motivated now than ever before, thanks to a great team and community that keeps me active, traveling the world, and working on multiple real estate development projects.
What do you do for a job?
I’m the owner of Real Investments, a full-service commercial real estate brokerage in Ventura County. I have an amazing team and we’ve been in the industry for over 40 years.
Tell us something people might not know about you:
I’m an avid world traveler and have recently spent quite a bit of time in Asia. Wherever I travel, I try to integrate with the local life and get off the beaten path. COVID has taken a toll on my trips but I was lucky enough to sneak in a quick trip to Costa Rica followed by a month in Thailand, which is beautiful this time of year!
What brought you to CrossFit in the first place?
My brother first introduced me to CrossFit, along with another good friend of mine, Mike Anderson, who owns Malibu CrossFit.
What was your first impression? How has that changed?
When I first joined BSCF, the fitness level and strength of the community really made an impact on me. Now, I’m also proud to be a part of that community that made such a big first impression on me!
What was your first “bright spot”?
My biggest bright spot is the work that I get to do with my coach Kai and her intern Haylie. BeachSide CrossFit has a top-notch staff and being coached by Kai keeps me in focus with clear goals. She is extremely encouraging and I’ve seen a huge improvement in my functional training since working with her.
What are you working on now?
Right now, I’m working on improving my PR for pull-ups, deadlifts, and squats. In my mind, these movements are absolutely essential for functional fitness.
What’s your favorite BeachSide CrossFit memory?
Every time I train at BeachSide CrossFit, I’m surrounded by an amazing group of men and women. From the staff to other members training here, I feel right at home. I recognize that it’s because of this great atmosphere that I’m healthy and active. There are so many small memories, moments, and smiles that are shared at BSCF that make me blessed to be a part of this fitness community.
