ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

July 2022 – Erin Jorgensen

Erin has had great energy since she became a member at BeachSide CrossFit 5 years ago. She recently celebrated a deadlift PR ending with 235lbs. Erin is constantly chasing better movements in the gym. She will also be the last to leave class because she cheers on every last member in a WOD. Keep being your awesome self Erin!

Tell us about yourself:
Hey everyone, I’m Erin Jorgensen. I was born in California but spent most of my childhood in Portland, OR. I moved to Ventura in 2005 and feel like this is my forever home. Besides CrossFit,  I love riding my bike, reading, camping, hiking, gardening, cooking, and listening to music.

What do you do for a job?
I’m an accountant at a sales company based out of Agoura. I’m currently working on earning my CPA
license (almost there!).

Tell us something people might not know about you:
I’m obsessed with stand-up comedy! I truly admire this art form that comedians make look so easy. I love going to live comedy shows and being in a fun space, laughing about situations that we can all relate to. My favorite stand-up comedians are John Mulaney, Steve Martin, and Tom Segura.

What brought you to CrossFit in the first place?
Being a runner most my life, I was used to working out solo. At some point, I wasn’t enjoying running anymore and needed something to get me out of my comfort zone. My Mom had been doing CrossFit for a few years and loved it, so I decided to try it out.

What was your first impression? How has that changed?
I’m a little shy and being in such an interactive group setting seemed intimidating. Far from it though! The coaches are so helpful and encouraging (shoutout to Coach Jess for the daily unwavering support!), and everyone is there to have an excellent time while improving their fitness. Beachside is such a cool community where I’ve met a lot of rad people.

What was your first “bright spot”?
It’s hard to pinpoint the first bright spot, but I love the feeling of hitting a PR on one of my favorite WODs. Death Row and Cali Bear are two of my favs!

What are you working on now?
I really want to start completing more workouts at Rx. More specifically though, getting better at strict pull-ups and toes-to-bar are top of the list.

What’s your favorite Beachside CrossFit memory?
There are so many! I love hanging with the BeachsSide crew in and out of the gym, and I love seeing everyone’s progress. Truly grateful for y’all!
